Recovery following Los Angeles Breast Augmentation

Most women who undergo breast augmentation typically do not have a lot of pain. Commonly there is a sense of pressure on the chest. Pain medications such as Vicodin or Percocet may be required for a few days, after which time plain Tylenol will usually be sufficient. There is typically very little bruising associated with breast augmentation in Los Angeles. Some swelling usually occurs and is most severe during the first few days, after which time it slowly resolves. Dressings and bandages can be removed after 2 days, at which time a woman can take a shower. The vast majority of women can return to work after 3 to 5 days at which time they can drive as well. 

At the first post operative visit, which is usually 4-6 days after surgery, our office will provide instructions on how to perform breast massage. This will help reduce the chance of scar tissue forming around your breast implants and also help them settle into position in quicker time period.

Certain precautions should be taken during the first few weeks however. We typically recommend avoiding any heavy lifting or strenuous exercise for the first few weeks after breast augmentation in Los Angeles.  After this time, a woman can gradually increase her activity level.  Furthermore, it is very common to have shooting pains or burning type pain on the skin as this is a sign of the nerves waking up. This may last up to 4 to 6 weeks and in some cases longer. After this time period, most women who have undergone breast augmentation with a Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon are fully recovered and may proceed with no restrictions.

Breast Augmentation Cost

Another factor that is important in determining the cost of breast augmentation in Beverly Hills and Los Angeles is what type of implant is selected. Within our practice, we offer both saline and silicone breast implants. Silicone implants, on average, tend to cost about $1000-$1200 more than saline implants. The benefits of silicone implants are a more a more natural feel and fewer tendencies for visible or palpable rippling. The main advantage of saline implants is that they are adjustable in terms of volume. Both saline and silicone implants in Los Angeles are excellent choices.

Breast Augmentation Before and After, What to Expect

On the day of your surgery, you will meet initially with the nurse and then the anesthesiology staff, who will carefully explain the type of anesthesia they will be using. After this, Dr. Kapoor will re-examine you and review the surgical plan.

Finally, Dr. Kapoor will make markings with a pen which he uses as a road map to achieve your desired results. After that, you will be escorted to the operating room, where you will be closely monitored and given general anesthesia. The Breast Augmentation procedure takes about 45 minutes to an hour to complete, after which you will be transfered to the recovery room where a nurse will watch you closely.

For the rest of the day you can expect to be slightly drowsy. Most patients do not experience a significant amount of pain during this time. We recommend taking pain medications every four to six hours as needed.

Following your breast augmentation surgery you can expect to be able to return to work in 3-5 days. You will need to wait 3-4 weeks befre starting to excersise or participate in more strenous activities. Initially, your new Breast Implants will appear slightly high due to swelling in the muscle. After this, they will gradually settle over a 6-8 weeks period. During this time, Los Angeles breast augmentation patients can help this process by massaging the breasts.
